On Monday, October 31, 2022, the European Commission released the updated version of the Combined Nomenclature (CN) for 2023. This updated version includes new subheadings to monitor specific items better.

From taxing merchants in ancient times to gathering statistics and protecting economies, customs is always evolving. Recent years have not only been about evolution, though. They’ve been about revolution.

From 1st October, all import declarations in the UK must be processed through the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS). From 1st April 2023, export declarations will no longer be accepted on the old Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system, either.

The Dutch Customs Authority is replacing its declaration system AGS (Aangiftesysteem - Declaration system). The new declaration system DMS 4.0 (Douaneaangifte Management Systeem - Customs Declaration Management System) was originally scheduled to go live in April but was postponed until October 2022. Because of issues linking DMS to their accounts receivable the Customs Authority has delayed the implementation of DMS 4.0 until further notice.
